Gosaikunda Lake Trek

The Gosainkunda Lake Trek is one of the most popular trekking routes in Nepal. This trek takes you to the stunning Gosainkunda Lake, a holy site for both Hindus and Buddhists, located at an altitude of 4,380 meters in the Langtang region of the Himalayas. The trek is known for its beautiful landscapes, stunning mountain views, and rich cultural heritage.

The trek starts from the small town of Dhunche, which is a 7-8 hour drive from Kathmandu. From Dhunche, the trail passes through lush forests and crosses several streams and rivers. As you climb higher, the landscape changes from dense forests to alpine meadows and finally to rocky terrain. One of the main highlights of the trek is the Gosainkunda Lake, which is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and has a beautiful turquoise color. According to Hindu mythology, the lake was created by Lord Shiva when he struck the ground with his trident. It is believed that taking a dip in the lake during the full moon festival in August brings good luck and cleanses one’s sins.

The trek also takes you to several other smaller lakes, including the Saraswati Kunda and Bhairav Kunda. These lakes are also considered holy by the locals and are surrounded by stunning natural beauty.

Along the way, you will also have the opportunity to experience the unique culture and lifestyle of the local people, who are mostly Tamangs and Sherpas. You can visit their villages and monasteries and learn about their traditions and beliefs.

The Gosainkunda Lake Trek is a moderate to challenging trek and requires a good level of fitness and endurance. The best time to do this trek is from September to November and from March to May, when the weather is clear and the views are stunning.
