Makalu Base Camp Trekking
Makalu Base Camp Trekking is a challenging and rewarding trekking adventure in Nepal that takes you through the remote and rugged terrain of the Makalu-Barun National Park. The trek offers breathtaking views of the world’s fifth highest peak, Mount Makalu (8,485m), and takes you through pristine forests, high altitude passes, and remote villages inhabited by indigenous communities.
The trek starts with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar, followed by a drive to Chichira. From Chichira, the trek follows the Arun River through lush rhododendron forests, bamboo groves, and traditional villages. The trail then ascends through rocky cliffs and narrow gorges to reach the Makalu-Barun National Park, a protected area that is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including the endangered red panda, musk deer, and Himalayan black bear.
The trek to Makalu Base Camp takes you through the beautiful villages of Num, Seduwa, and Tashigaon, where you can experience the unique culture and traditions of the Sherpa, Rai, and Limbu communities. The trail then ascends through the beautiful Barun Valley, passing through high altitude passes, such as the Shipton La Pass (4,220m) and the Keke La Pass (4,150m), before reaching the Makalu Base Camp (4,870m). From the base camp, you can enjoy stunning views of Mount Makalu and other surrounding peaks, such as Lhotse (8,516m), Chamlang (7,319m), and Baruntse (7,129m).

Day 3: Trek from Num to Seduwa (1,540m)
Day 4: Trek from Seduwa to Tashigaon (2,070m)
Day 5: Trek from Tashigaon to Khongma Danda (3,500m)
Day 6: Rest day in Khongma Danda for acclimatization and exploration
Day 7: Trek from Khongma Danda to Dobate (3,500m)
Day 8: Trek from Dobate to Yangri Kharka (3,610m)
Day 9: Trek from Yangri Kharka to Langmale Kharka (4,410m)
Day 10: Trek from Langmale Kharka to Makalu Base Camp (4,870m)
Day 11: Rest day in Makalu Base Camp for acclimatization and exploration
Day 12: Hike to the viewpoint near Sherson for panoramic views of Makalu and the surrounding peaks, and return to Makalu Base Camp
Day 13: Trek from Makalu Base Camp to Yangri Kharka
Day 14: Trek from Yangri Kharka to Dobate
Day 15: Trek from Dobate to Khongma Danda
Day 16: Trek from Khongma Danda to Tashigaon
Day 17: Trek from Tashigaon to Seduwa
Day 18: Trek from Seduwa to Num
Day 19: Drive from Num to Tumlingtar and fly back to Kathmandu

Detail Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu – Arrive in the capital city of Nepal and settle into your accommodation.
Day 2: Fly from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar (410m) and drive to Num (1,500m) – Take a flight to Tumlingtar and then drive to Num to start the trek.
Day 3-4: Trek to Seduwa and Tashigaon – Trek through scenic landscapes and small villages to reach Seduwa and Tashigaon.
Day 5-6: Trek to Khongma Danda – Reach the highest point of the trek and take a rest day to acclimatize.
Day 7-9: Trek to Langmale Kharka – Trek through forests and high altitude terrain to reach the beautiful Langmale Kharka.
Day 10-12: Trek to Makalu Base Camp – Reach the stunning Makalu Base Camp and take a rest day to explore the area and admire the panoramic views.
Day 13-18: Trek back to Num – Retrace your steps back to Num through the same beautiful landscapes and small villages.
Day 19-20: Return to Kathmandu – Drive back to Tumlingtar and fly back to Kathmandu. Depart from Kathmandu on the final day of the trek
