CHULU EAST PEAK CLIMBING
Chulu East Peak is a popular climbing destination in the Annapurna region of Nepal, offering a challenging yet rewarding climb for experienced mountaineers. Standing at an elevation of 6,584 meters (21,601 feet), it offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, including Annapurna II, III, IV, and Gangapurna.
The trek to Chulu East Peak begins from the city of Besisahar and follows the classic Annapurna Circuit trekking route through traditional villages, lush forests, and scenic landscapes. The trek offers an excellent opportunity to experience the local culture, lifestyle, and hospitality of the Gurung and Tibetan people who inhabit the region.
The actual climbing of Chulu East Peak involves technical sections and requires the use of climbing gear such as ice axes, crampons, and ropes. The climb is challenging and requires a good level of physical fitness and mountaineering experience. However, with proper training, guidance, and support from experienced climbing guides, the climb can be a safe and memorable experience.
The climb usually takes around 12-14 days, including acclimatization and training days, and the actual summit push. The climb starts from the base camp at an altitude of 4,800 meters (15,748 feet) and progresses to the high camp at an altitude of 5,400 meters (17,717 feet). The summit push usually starts early in the morning to reach the summit by mid-day. The climb involves navigating through steep slopes, crevasses, and snow and ice formations, adding to the challenge and excitement of the climb.
The best time for Chulu East Peak climbing is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons when the weather is stable and clear, offering excellent views of the surrounding mountains. However, climbers must be prepared for the possibility of sudden weather changes and snowfall at high altitudes.
